• No Advertisements: A .gov domain may not be used to advertise for private individuals, firms, or corporations, or imply in any manner that the government endorses or favors any specific commercial product, commodity, or service.
• No Campaign Information: No campaigning can be done with .gov domains. The .gov web sites may not be directly linked to or refer to web sites created or operated by a campaign or any campaign entity or committee. Separate web sites and e-mail on other top-level domains (TLDs), such as .org, will have to be used to disseminate campaign information.
• Link Change Notification: When a link on a .GOV domain makes the user leave a .GOV domain to a non-.GOV domain, a notification or screen (i.e., a splash message) should alert users that they are leaving the .gov domain.   See examples in the Frequently Asked Questions section below for how to comply with this requirement.

Domain Termination.  Federal guidelines also provide that “organizations that operate Web sites that are not in compliance with the .gov conditions of use may have their domain name terminated.”  Therefore, violation of such rules are treated as serious and any CAP unit operating a web site under the CAP.GOV domain in violation of such guidelines may be immediately disabled.

A company has donated services to support our unit’s Internet operations,  may we mention that on the web-site? As noted above, by federal guidelines the CAP.GOV domain may not be used to advertise for private individuals, firms, or corporations, or, in this instance,  imply in any manner that  CAP endorses or favors any specific commercial product commodity or service. On the other hand, it would not be inappropriate to tastefully acknowledge a donation.  For example, “ We would like to acknowledge the donation of XYX Company which has facilitated our having server space to support this web-site.”   To avoid the appearance of advertising or endorsing, company logos and trademarks of the person or company making the donation should be avoided. In addition, as required by CAP Regulation and to aid in fulfilling our obligation under Federal guidelines, the following disclaimer should be clearly displayed near any such donation acknowledgment:
